Year 1 requirements mainly focused on energy awareness. As a result, the first version of the ASCETiC Toolbox provides a Cloud stack that facilitates measuring the energy consumed by a SaaS application and individual virtual machines on which the SaaS application executes. In Year 2, the ASCETiC Toolbox is augmented to perform a first set of self-adaptation actions to improve the SaaS application in terms of energy consumption behavior, time performance and operational cost. This initial set of self-adaptation actions is limited to intra-layer. This means that each Cloud layer executes self-adaptation actions independent from other two layers and unaware of the actions taken by these other two layers. A coordinated self-adaptation across the layers (inter-layer) will be addressed during the third year of the project.
