Architecture Specification (Year 1)

ASCETiC complements Cloud computing developments by addressing the carbon footprint and efficiency of the software that runs on cloud infrastructures. The major contribution to the carbon footprint of Cloud computing software is energy consumed in its operation. Thus the primary aim of ASCETiC is to relate software design, energy use and ecological awareness.
This document contains a high-level view and specification of the ASCETiC reference architecture. Details are included on the main architectural components and their identified interfaces. This is in addition to an analysis of component workflows and dependencies. To guarantee the alignment of the ASCETiC development framework and associated Cloud environment with business and technical needs, the architecture is derived from the business and technical requirements deliverable and traceability between architectural components and requirements is presented.
