The internationally renowned Technische Universität Berlin (TUB) is located in Germany’s capital city at the heart of Europe. With more than 28.000 students, it is one of the largest universities of technology in Germany and covers a broad spectrum of academic disciplines, ranging from engineering science to natural science, mathematics, planning science and economics, as well as the humanities and social sciences. TUB has a strong focus on impact-oriented research which is reflected in excellent rankings for research funding and holds one of the highest shares of industrial grants among German universities. A close, successful collaboration with industrial partners is a cornerstone of the TUB philosophy and visible by several long-term cooperation agreements. Deutsche Telekom established the affiliate institute T-Labs with full support of six professorships and 70 researchers. Further partners are Siemens (Center for Knowledge Interchange), Daimler (Center for Automotive Information Technology), and the European Center for ICT with a platform for synchronizing long-term, cooperative research and knowledge transfer between TUB and its partners. Moreover, the TUB has a long-term cooperation with non-university research institutes, for example the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Architecture and Software Technology FhG FIRST, Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems FhG FOKUS, Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology, German Aerospace Center, and the European Institute of Technology. This unique research environment in the Berlin metropolitan area is comprised of a total of 63 professors at all levels, who hold joint positions with companies and research institutes.
